A message from a wise ancestor who was born a century ago:
In my generation, we did our best with what we knew, which wasn’t a lot.
When I was young and graduated from theology school, I thought I was equipped with everything in life. It was false confidence. It’s not because you feel close to God that you have the right answers.
When people came to my office, I felt powerless more often than knowledgeable in dealing with their issues.
That was a hard lesson to learn. Don’t fall in the same trap.
And a similar situation developed with my wife. I thought I was all equipped to deal with marriage, after theology school and watching my parents’ marriage.
Each generation has to reinvent the world – rediscover the world.
Sing the world into being in a way that makes sense to you.
You have to live. You won’t find the answers in the library, but in everyday life.
If theology had all the answers, we wouldn’t have to reincarnate so often.
Life is a game of patience. And that’s where happiness is, in patience.
